Which UNCW programs work from South Carolina
UNCW lists no rule that shuts South Carolina residents out of its online programs. What splits the list is a second question: does the practicum have to happen in North Carolina, or where you hold your license?

UNCW's single licensure disclosure, written for the on-campus BSN and ABSN, marks South Carolina as "Meets". The graduate programs carry no state-by-state disclosure, and the state authorization guide explains what UNCW does publish.
What the South Carolina Board of Nursing asks of out-of-state programs
South Carolina regulation R.91-6 makes a program based in another state win Board approval before it runs clinicals here, but only when those clinicals prepare students for a first nursing license. The regulation says nothing about RN-BSN or APRN programs.
The Board's education FAQ covers the gap. It says the Board does not regulate RN-BSN programs, since they lead to no initial license, and that registered nurses in a master's program need an active South Carolina or compact license while taking clinical courses in the state. For a student in the MSN Nurse Educator or the educator certificate, that points to a practicum at home on the license you already carry.
Two cautions apply. The FAQ copy on record is dated 2019, and UNCW has published nothing specific to South Carolina practicums, so get the current position from UNCW's School of Nursing before you commit.
Nursing practice and health care in South Carolina
South Carolina sits in AANP's restricted practice category. Nurse practitioners here need a practice agreement with a physician for delegated acts, and controlled-substance supply is capped. That shapes a career here after graduation more than your training, because UNCW NP clinicals run under North Carolina law.
When you need a site for the educator practicum or an RN-BSN assignment, the big systems show where nurse educators and staff development teams work: Prisma Health and MUSC Health, along with McLeod Health, Lexington Health and Roper St. Francis Healthcare, spread over the Greenville-Anderson, Charleston and Columbia metros. Treat them as examples of settings; any site you choose still needs UNCW's approval.
South Carolina also offers an income tax credit to uncompensated physician, APRN and PA preceptors, now extended through tax year 2029. Only rotations for students of South Carolina institutions qualify, so it plays no part in a UNCW placement.
NP students: every clinical hour happens across the line
The DNP handbook draws a hard line for FNP, AGPCNP and PMHNP students: practicum hours count only in North Carolina, under North Carolina clinicians. A South Carolina home address leaves that untouched, and the handbook's own sentence sits on our North Carolina clinical rule page.
For nurses on the Grand Strand or in the Pee Dee, the closest North Carolina ground is Brunswick and Columbus counties, where community health centers run sites in Shallotte, Ocean Isle Beach, Whiteville, Chadbourn and Tabor City. Nurses living on the South Carolina side of greater Charlotte look north to the city itself, where Atrium Health lists UNCW on its clinical education agreement roster through April 2029.

Your South Carolina license, and a possible move north
South Carolina has been a compact state since January 19, 2018, which makes a multistate license issued here the kind of compact license UNCW's NP and leadership DNP admission pages accept. The compact reaches only the RN license, so North Carolina's NP approval, if you want it after graduating, is its own application.

Questions UNCW students ask
Can I count UNCW NP clinical hours at a Grand Strand practice?
No. A Grand Strand office is in South Carolina, and UNCW accepts NP practicum hours only from North Carolina sites whose preceptors practice in that state. Distance from the border makes no difference. From the coast, the nearest qualifying ground is across the line in Brunswick and Columbus counties.
Must UNCW get South Carolina Board approval before my nurse educator practicum?
R.91-6 reaches only programs from other states whose clinicals lead toward initial licensure, and the MSN Nurse Educator sits outside that group. The Board's FAQ instead asks master's students in clinical courses to hold an SC or compact license. UNCW has published nothing SC-specific, so check with its School of Nursing first.
Is my South Carolina RN license enough for UNCW's DNP?
For the RN license part, yes, provided it is multistate. UNCW's DNP admission pages ask for a North Carolina or compact license, and South Carolina issues compact licenses. Practicing APRNs applying to the Post APRN track add their APRN credential from home, and NP students still train entirely in North Carolina.
Can I take UNCW's RN-BSN while living in South Carolina?
Yes. UNCW markets the RN-BSN to nurses across most of the country and ties it to the license of the state you live in, which for you is South Carolina. Its practice experiences can use your current workplace, and the South Carolina board leaves RN-BSN programs outside its regulation.
Can a South Carolina preceptor claim the state tax credit for precepting me?
Not for a UNCW rotation. The law ties the credit to learners at the state's own public and independent colleges, with further conditions on rotation length and Medicaid participation. UNCW lists its own thank-you benefits for preceptors, such as library access and a possible adjunct appointment, on its Preceptor's Corner.
