Two rules that decide where your practicum happens
The DNP FNP, AGPCNP and PMHNP concentrations, and the PMHNP certificate, keep every clinical hour inside North Carolina. The preceptors work in the state, and students hold a North Carolina or compact RN license to take part.

Can I study in UNCW's DNP FNP program from another state?
UNCW publishes no bar on out-of-state residents, but every NP clinical hour happens in North Carolina with North Carolina preceptors, and you need an NC or compact RN license. Plan your travel before you apply.
Where do UNCW nurse educator students do their practicum?
Usually close to home. UNCW's nurse educator pages want a preceptor holding a license in the practicum's state, so an educator student outside North Carolina can often complete the practicum nearby.
Is UNCW part of SARA?
Yes. UNCW joined the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement in 2017, and for California, which is outside SARA, it relies on that state's exemptions for distance programs.
