What Florida's Board of Nursing regulates
Florida's approval statute, s. 464.019, is aimed at schools that want to prepare nurses for a first license inside Florida, and the Board frames its own approval job the same way. Nothing located in Florida law asks an RN-BSN, master's or APRN program from elsewhere to apply or send notice before its student starts practice work in Florida.
A rule that was not found is different from a written exemption, so ask UNCW's School of Nursing to confirm a Florida practicum before you enroll. Florida has been in the compact since January 19, 2018, so a Florida license with multistate status counts as the compact license UNCW's DNP admission pages accept.
Practice rules, employers and state funding in Florida
AANP rates Florida as restricted practice: certain Florida NPs must hold a physician protocol throughout their careers, though exemptions may apply. That frames NP work in Florida after you graduate, not your UNCW training.
For an educator practicum or a leadership project, the state's large employers show where the right people work: UF Health, AdventHealth, Baptist Health South Florida, BayCare and the HCA Florida Healthcare hospitals, spread through the Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa and Miami metros. The Florida Department of Health is another setting for population work. Any site still needs UNCW's approval and an agreement, and an educator practicum needs one site for both courses.
Florida's TEACH program reimburses certain community clinics, health centers and shortage-area facilities for clinical training hours, subject to appropriation. Its reimbursement follows students of accredited Florida-based programs only, which leaves UNCW students out.
If you are in an NP concentration
A Florida address does not move UNCW's NP clinicals south. FNP, AGPCNP and PMHNP students complete their practicum hours at North Carolina sites, precepted by clinicians who practice there, and the North Carolina clinical rule page carries the handbook text.
That usually means extended stays in North Carolina during practicum semesters. UNCW's DNP FAQ suggests lodging with friends or family near the site, and the NC AHEC guide covers student housing for community rotations.
Clinical hours logged with a Florida preceptor will not count toward a UNCW NP concentration, whatever the preceptor's credentials.

Does Florida require UNCW to register before my nurse educator practicum?
No such requirement turned up. Florida's program-approval statute speaks to prelicensure education in the state, and research found nothing aimed at graduate programs based elsewhere. UNCW's own preceptor standards still apply, starting with a Florida license for your preceptor. Have UNCW confirm the site before you enroll.
Can I do UNCW FNP clinicals in Florida if I travel to Wilmington for intensives?
No. The intensives bring you to campus, but they do not widen the map: the handbook recognizes NP practicum hours only when both the site and the preceptor are in North Carolina. Plan every FNP practicum course around North Carolina, including where you will stay.
Can I take UNCW's RN-BSN from Florida?
Yes. UNCW enrolls RN-BSN students from most states, and for you the license that matters is your Florida one, kept active the whole way through. There is no quota of clinical hours; practice experiences can fit into your current job or happen outside work.
Does the Post APRN DNP accept a Florida nurse practitioner?
Yes, if you meet the entry profile: a compact or North Carolina RN license, APRN licensure or approval where you live, national certification and a current advanced practice job. The DNP project runs in Florida if that is where you are licensed, usually inside your own organization, and it is logged as immersion hours with no preceptor.
