Nevada has no pending compact legislation, so a Nevada license gives no privilege to practice in North Carolina. NC or compact RN license explains how UNCW treats licenses from single-license states.

NAC 632.703 and the Board's clinical-portion list

Under NAC 632.703, any nursing school operating a piece of its program inside Nevada must send the Board a report on its form, showing accreditation or home-state approval and compliance with Nevada's nursing law, then file school reports every year. An online or otherwise nontraditional program needs Board approval before it offers clinical instruction in the state, and its faculty teaching there hold Nevada licenses. The regulation does not sort pre-licensure, post-licensure and graduate programs into separate rules.

A Board program list dated September 1, 2026 names the schools from other states cleared to run only their clinical portion in Nevada. Every one is a pre-licensure program, and UNCW is not listed. How far the rule reaches into an educator practicum or RN-BSN practice experience is unclear, so settle it with UNCW before enrolling.

Two Board practice decisions worth knowing

Patient care needs a Nevada license. A Board practice decision says anyone caring for patients located in Nevada holds a Nevada license, and it lists nursing education with direct patient contact among the covered activities.
Precepted clinicals have limits. A 2005 decision has faculty directing every student clinical experience, preceptors on site with no more than two students at once, faculty reachable by phone, and the program giving preceptors an orientation and written objectives.

Neither decision singles out graduate programs, but together they show how closely Nevada watches clinical teaching inside its borders.

Practice law and health care in Las Vegas and Reno

AANP puts Nevada among its full practice states, with one prescribing limit: an NP needs two years or 2,000 hours of clinical experience before prescribing Schedule II drugs, unless working under a protocol a physician has approved. Nevada has not enacted the APRN Compact either.

Southern Nevada's large employers include University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, the state's academic medical center in Las Vegas, along with Sunrise Health System (HCA), The Valley Health System and Dignity Health's Las Vegas and Henderson hospitals. Renown Health is the major system in the north, around Reno and Carson City. These illustrate settings an educator or RN-BSN student might explore; none is a known UNCW site.

NP hours mean a trip east

UNCW's DNP handbook for 2025-26 allows NP clinical hours only in North Carolina, under North Carolina preceptors, and a separate line on license upkeep requires an RN license valid in North Carolina whenever clinicals are underway. From Las Vegas or Reno, that means an NC license, travel and a place to stay for every practicum. The North Carolina clinical rule covers the handbook's wording.

Questions UNCW students ask

Can I use my Nevada RN license for UNCW's NP clinicals?

No. UNCW's NP admission wording accepts only a North Carolina RN license or a multistate compact license, and Nevada issues neither kind, so a Nevada license carries no privilege to practice in North Carolina. You would need a North Carolina RN license before your first clinical course, since every NP clinical hour happens there.

Is UNCW approved to hold clinicals in Nevada?

UNCW is not on the Nevada Board's September 1, 2026 list of out-of-state schools approved for the clinical portion, which holds only pre-licensure programs. Nevada's rule for online programs does not split graduate from pre-licensure programs, so ask UNCW whether a Nevada practicum or project needs Board approval first.

Can I complete UNCW's online RN-BSN while living in Nevada?

The RN-BSN handbook wants a clear, active RN license from the state where you live, and a Nevada license fits that. UNCW's FAQ also says the program takes nurses from most states. The practice experiences would happen in Nevada, so confirm with UNCW how Nevada's approval rule treats them before you start.

What happens if I move from North Carolina to Nevada mid-program?

UNCW has published no policy for that move. NP students would still complete clinical hours in North Carolina, and the handbook requires an RN license valid in North Carolina at the time of clinical, which a Nevada license is not. Educator and RN-BSN students should ask their advisor how the move affects their practicum and license.
