The UNCW systems a nursing student actually uses
Registration, bills and email run through mySeaport, course rules and clinical dates sit in Canvas, and your hours and evaluations live in Typhon. Compliance goes to Certiphi or, for some older DNP cohorts, Castle Branch. Here is what each UNCW system does, which old name your handbook may still use, and which ones matter at each point in a practicum term.

mySeaport: registration, bills and records
mySeaport is UNCW's front door. UNCW describes it as the place to read campus email and announcements, find timesheets and pay information, and reach Canvas and Microsoft 365. Behind it runs Banner, the university's enterprise system, with student self-service reached through the portal.
The 2026-27 graduate catalog says registration, preregistration and drop/add all happen in mySeaport. Graduate students need no registration PIN, while undergraduates get one by meeting their advisor. DNP students receive override codes for the courses they are cleared to take; adding a course goes through your advisor or concentration lead, and moving between full-time and part-time needs approval from the DNP Program Coordinator and your Concentration Leader. Students in UNCW's online accelerated programs usually register through their advisor.
Your E-Bill is in mySeaport as well, under Finances on the Students tab. It matters for clinicals: practicum courses add a liability insurance charge each semester, and any honorarium a site requires is billed to your UNCW student account instead of being paid to the site, as the paid clinical sites page explains.
SeaNet, email and tech support
If your DNP Student Handbook sends you to SeaNet for courses, schedules and financial aid, that line is out of date. The 2025-2026 edition still names SeaNet on page 15, but UNCW's IT knowledge base now files its SeaNet article as archived, and the old SeaNet address directs students to mySeaport for the services SeaNet used to hold. Read any SeaNet step as a mySeaport step.
UNCW treats email as an official channel and your uncw.edu address as the official address. The catalog warns that forwarding to a personal inbox is at your own risk: a message missed because of forwarding is not necessarily a defense for failing to respond. In a placement term, that inbox is where faculty and UNCW offices reach you, so read it daily.
For technical problems, the Technology Assistance Center inside UNCW Library is the first stop, by live chat, walk-in or phone, with the myTAC portal for tickets. The DNP handbook is plain that technical issues are not an excuse for a late assignment.
Canvas: where UNCW keeps clinical rules and dates
Canvas is UNCW's learning management system, and for graduate nursing it carries far more than lectures. Every DNP student is enrolled on admission in the DNP Immersion and Clinical Overview Course, also called the DNP Clinical and Immersion Hours Canvas Site. It holds the clinical and immersion rules, the instructions for which compliance platform your cohort uses, housing guidance, and the list of sites that charge an honorarium.
The Clinical Placement Team also posts available preceptors on that course's discussion boards for students to claim, so checking it often belongs in your search routine. Course-level dates, including on-campus intensive dates, are published in Canvas rather than on UNCW's public pages; see orientation and intensives.
MSN Nurse Educator students have their own hub, the MSN NE Student Central Canvas site, with the current handbook, practicum preparation and credentialing steps. For Canvas, the DNP handbook recommends Firefox Extended Support Release and requires Microsoft Office.
Typhon, Certiphi, Castle Branch and DocuSign
These are the clinical systems. Typhon, UNCW's Nurse Practitioner Student Tracking system, records every clinical and immersion hour, each patient encounter and all evaluations from you, faculty and the site supervisor. The Clinical Placement Team adds your approved preceptor and site, and access begins at DNP orientation. Nurse educator students use Typhon too: the preceptor review form sits there and the preceptor validates practicum hours in it. Logging rules are on the Typhon clinical logs page.

Undergraduate clinical tools
BSN and ABSN students meet a different set. Certain clinical partners require a myClinicalExchange (myCE) account, which students open and pay for themselves; the clinical handbook does not say which partners. Every prelicensure and ABSN student also completes the NHRMC online student orientation, computer-based modules on bloodborne pathogens, TB, infection control and worker safety, with the certificate due July 1 for fall entry or December 1 for spring entry.
Inside courses, ATI standardized exams form part of some course requirements, with a benchmark above Level 2, and the simulation lab uses EHR Tutor on tablets for bedside documentation. Prelicensure applications run through REDCap. On clinical days, the handbook requires your UNCW photo ID and/or the agency badge to be worn above the waist where it is clearly visible.
One Card, UNCW Library, Starfish and the Student Success Center
The UNCW One Card is your campus ID, issued through the Warwick Center against a government photo ID. Graduate students upload a photo and collect the card in August; distance education and online accelerated students are asked to email the One Card office for their options. The DNP and nurse educator handbooks have no badge section, so each clinical site's own ID rules apply.
UNCW Library, formerly Randall Library, now spans Discovery Hall and a renovated Randall Hall with a larger graduate student area. The nursing subject guide has a For DNP Students tab with CINAHL Plus with Full Text and Ovid Emcare search tutorials.
The CHHS Student Success Center, in McNeill Hall 1009 and Veterans Hall 1533, handles admission, advising, scholarships and career planning, with walk-in Advisor Quick Chats on Friday mornings. Appointments are booked in Starfish through My Success Network. Prelicensure students must see their Success Center advisor at least once a semester before registration; DNP students work with faculty advisors and concentration leads.
Which systems matter at each stage of a practicum term
- Six to twelve months outWatch the Canvas overview course for posted preceptors and site lists, and read your cohort's compliance instructions there.
- Before your placement is submittedKeep Certiphi or Castle Branch current, confirm your override code and registration in mySeaport, and complete placement forms sent through DocuSign.
- Opening weeks of the termFinish course orientation, check that your preceptor and site appear in Typhon, and look at your E-Bill for the liability insurance and any site fee.
- Clinical daysLog encounters and hours in Typhon, read your UNCW email daily, and use the library databases for case work.
- Final weeksMake sure the site supervisor evaluation is done in Typhon and every hour is logged before the last day of classes.

Questions UNCW students ask
Where do I find the list of UNCW clinical sites that charge a fee?
In the DNP Immersion and Clinical Overview course in Canvas. UNCW publishes the honorarium site list there rather than on its public pages. If you take one of those sites, the fee is handled by the Clinical Placement Team and charged to your UNCW student account, which you can check on the E-Bill in mySeaport.
Do I use Castle Branch or Certiphi for UNCW's DNP?
It depends on when you started. UNCW's clinical overview says requirements are tracked through Castle Branch or Certiphi Screening, with the platform set per cohort, and it also says current requirements are completed in Certiphi. Earlier DNP cohorts may still keep records in Castle Branch. Your cohort's instructions are in the Canvas overview course.
Who pays for myClinicalExchange at UNCW?
The student. The Prelicensure and ABSN Clinical Handbook says students create and pay for their own myClinicalExchange account when a clinical partner requires one. UNCW does not name those partners publicly, so wait for your clinical course or faculty to tell you a site needs it before opening an account.
Can my preceptor use UNCW Library resources?
Yes, on request. UNCW lists access to the library's electronic resources among the benefits of precepting, and the DNP clinical overview says the Clinical Placement Team gives preceptors access to the digital library database when they ask. It is a useful point to mention when you approach a busy clinician about taking a student.
When do UNCW DNP students get Typhon access?
During DNP orientation, according to UNCW's clinical overview. Your preceptor and site are then added to Typhon by the Clinical Placement Team once they are approved. If either is missing when your clinical course opens, contact the team before your first clinical day so your hours have somewhere to go.
